प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेन्द्र मोदी ने आज मदुरै और चेन्नई के बीच तेजस एक्सप्रेस रेलगाड़ी को झंडी दिखाकर रवाना किया। उन्होंने कन्याकुमारी में एक विशाल सार्वजनिक समारोह में रामेश्वरम और धनुषकोडी के बीच रेल संपर्क की बहाली तथा पम्बम सेतु को पुन:स्थापित करने के लिए आधारशिला रखी। प्रधानमंत्री ने कुछ सड़क परियोजनाओं का उद्घाटन किया।
समारोह को संबोधित करते हुए प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि प्रत्येक भारतीय को इस बात का गर्व है कि बहादुर विंग कमांडर अभिनंदन तमिलनाडु के रहने वाले हैं।
उन्होंने कुछ दिन पहले गांधी शांति पुरस्कार प्राप्त करने के लिए विवेकानंद केन्द्र को बधाई दी।
प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि तेजस एक्सपेस अत्याधुनिक ट्रेन है और यह ‘मेक इन इंडिया’ का बड़ा उदाहरण है।
उन्होंने कहा कि रामेश्वरम-घनुषकोडी रेल लाइन 1964 की आपदा के बाद क्षतिग्रस्त हुई, लेकिन 50 से अधिक वर्षों में भी इस लाइन पर कोई ध्यान नहीं दिया गया। उन्होंने कहा कि कभी नहीं से देर भली।
प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि पीएम किसान सम्मान निधि के हिस्से के रूप में 1.1 करोड़ किसानों को उनके बैंक खातों में पहली किस्त मिल गई है। उन्होंने कहा कि पहली फरवरी को घोषित योजना फरवरी महीने में ही वास्तविकता बन गई। उन्होंने कहा कि हमने 24 दिनों में योजना को प्रस्तुत करने के लिए बिना रूके 24 घंटे काम किया। उन्होंने कहा कि 10 वर्षों में परिश्रमी किसानों को लगभग 7.5 लाख करोड़ रूपये मिले होते।
प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि लोग सरकार से ईमानदारी, विकास, प्रगति, अवसर तथा सुरक्षा चाहते हैं।
प्रधानमंत्री ने रक्षा और सुरक्षा के बारे में कहा कि भारत वर्षों से आतंकवाद के खतरे को झेल रहा है। उन्होंने कहा कि अब बड़ा परिवर्तन यह आया है कि भारत आतंक की स्थित में असहाय नहीं रहेगा। उन्होंने कहा कि यह नया भारत है और आतंकवादियों द्वारा किये गये नुकसान का जवाब पूरी ताकत के साथ दिया जायेगा। प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि रक्षा और राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा के मामले में हम भारतीय पहले हैं और केवल भारतीय हैं।
प्रधानमंत्री ने भ्रष्टाचार के विरूद्ध केन्द्र सरकार द्वारा उठाये गये कदमों की भी चर्चा की।
